I need the simplicity of primitive design to lighten my life
everyday ... it's my resting place ... I find it
in the simplest of designs and in the quiet of
when I am pulling  strips of wool one at a time.
Won't you join me?

It seems to me that those of us who love handwork love all  kinds ...
Embroidery, appliqué, make-dos ~
Penny rugs are appliquéd circles ...
Charming!

You have a rug hooking pal in Colorado!
Wouldn't it be fun if we could hook together today?

.... maybe a geometric/hexagon design like hooked
in this early rug appeals to you.

Here on wool street we don't need
cold weather to love our wool! The love
of rug hooking is year 'round!
Here is a great early rug ... pets and
farm animals were often included in
early rugs! Just like they are today ...
The roses are such a nice touch!
I wonder if this is a memorial rug for
some endearing pets.
This rug measures 30" x 55" and was
hooked in 1880 in Pennsylvania.

I think our huge geranium pot made it through the winter.
I put it in the sunniest window I could find ...
This rug reminds me of all the red flowers we will enjoy
this summer ... starting with tall red tulips!

Goodbye March ~ Hello April
Some out there still have snow on the ground ... bless your hearts.
Just know it will be gone ... and the pay off ~ GREEN!
Green seems to be the official color of spring ~ at least for the background.
Then up front every color of the rainbow begins to appear. I can't choose a favorite ...
I even think of the white crocus as being a color.
Time to get out the dye pot ~ before it gets too hot to think of any kind of simmering ...
For wool keepers spring cleaning is more like play when it comes to our wool stash.
Take inventory of your wool and you will get inspired for more or a grand idea of how
to use what you have ...

I think I might have a touch of spring fever. I am spending lots of time looking out the windows into the gardens. The fall leaves are still hanging around and turning into mulch from all the snow we have had. The bulbs are pushing through and getting taller every day. Some of the crocus are blooming ~ yellow, purple and white. It is magical!

Spring always makes me think of strong colors ... green is
one of them ~ so many shades coming up in our gardens
Green is the
back drop of our gardens ... it's coming!!
This a the wool I used for hooking a tree ...

The colors in this rug are jewel toned. It has a cheerful and
warm color plan. Not for every room or decor but
there are plenty of places that this rug would feel right at home.

Whoever designed/hooked this rug loves animals.
Most of us have either a dog or cat as pets.
I have never owned a goat or a horse but I
adore them as subjects for a rug ... Nice
color plan too.

I have been snooping around on Pinterest and Blogs
... looking for inspiration. I have hooked a lot of rugs ~ not
as many as some folks ~ but, I like to have something on
my frame ~ and I don't have right now.
Maybe this one will work for me?
It's 19" x 33" ~ a great sized rug for a table top.

If you are a dyed in the wool hooker ~ you should have
at least one "sheep rug" ~ Here also is an interesting border
that will shorten your left-over strip pile ... always a good thing!
Often designers will add to a sheep rug design by putting something on it's back ...
Fine, but not necessary ... the sheep stand tall on their own ... Baaaaaa

This rug is irresistible! And the border could be
used on nearly any rug!
~ 30" x 48" ~
Hook on hooking pals!

We are getting snow again! The moisture is so welcomed!
I adore hooked rugs made to record a house. Everyone loves
their home ... it is a nest. I love puttsying around my home.
Touching our things even if it just to quickly dust them is a
way of keeping in touch with the things that represent who we are.
There are stories ...
 good to recall.
I wonder if it is true to say ... we are what we like. I know the bible
says we are what we think and we get what we say.

I haven't measured it or even taken a picture but the snow
is deep this morning in Colorado Springs. I know
there are some
rug hookers who head for the beach when
winter comes ... I love snow days!!
When I was a little girl they didn't allow girls to wear
jeans and such to school but on really snowy days I
got to wear my little brown wooly leggings! Mom would
stuff my dress down inside because there were suspenders
attached. There were zippers at the bottom so I could get my boots on.
Such fond memories of the wintery days of childhood. I still think
like that little girl on a snowy day! Let it snow!

We are always looking for ways to use up our left-over strips. Here is a good example of a popular motif ~ a star ~ surrounded by the hit and miss style of making do with what we have! So simple yet so charming and timeless!
